The Principal Investigator (PI) has a long experience of research on communication and climate change, including leading a project funded by FCT, the Portuguese Science Foundation, that looked at the relation between the discourses on climate change of different social actors, media discourses and social representations (‘The Politics of Climate Change: Discourses and Representations’ - POCI/COM/56973/2004), as well as research on the relation between communication and the politics of climate change and on the enactment of public participation in science and environment communication. She is also experienced in one of the key methods to be used in this project: Critical Discourse Analysis.

The team members from the SOCIUS research unit have recently conducted the project AQUIMED ('Participatory design of adaptive groundwater management strategies and instruments in Mediterranean coastal water scarce areas as a response to climate change') funded by the European Union program ERA-NET and by FCT (ERA-CIRCLE/0001/2007).

Sofia Bento coordinated the Portuguese team and has extensive experience with participatory methods on environmental issues.

Lúcia Fernandes also has extensive experience of sociological research on environmental issues and is developing a post-doctoral study in SOCIUS about the experience of transition in Portugal and its environmental, social and political challenges (SFRH/BPD/79933/2011).
